The Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) is a K-12 nonverbal assessment often used by schools to identify gifted and talented students. Created by Jack A. Naglieri, the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test bypasses cultural and linguistic barriers by using only visual stimuli, shapes, and patterns. This NNAT screening assesses Pattern Completion, Reasoning by Analogy, and Serial Reasoning. Because it is nonverbal, the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test is widely considered one of the most culturally fair intelligence assessments in modern psychology.
Parents often ask: Is the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test an IQ test? Essentially, yes—it measures a component of general intelligence called “fluid reasoning.” Completing a Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test helps identify intellectual potential in individuals regardless of their language proficiency.
Pattern Completion
A core NNAT metric: completing a visual design based on established color and shape rules.
Analogy Reasoning
Testing your ability to see logical relationships between different nonverbal shapes.
Serial Reasoning
Determining how a series of complex objects evolve over a sequential matrix.
Spatial Ops
Used in Naglieri Nonverbal Tests to see how well one can mentally rotate or combine figures.
